COMING UP – 09.12.2017

After a week out of the studio (and on the freezing cold Baker Street in Weybridge for the Christmas fair), I am back! It’s my first festive show of 2017, which I can’t wait for.

It’s a busy one today as we have not one… but TWO amazing features!

At 3:35, I will be talking with actress, singer and impressionist Christina Bianco about her ‘Divine Delusions’ in Leicester Square on Friday 15th December 2017 and some BIG news for the lovely lady.

Then at 4:35, after the Weekend Guide, I delve into the world of panto by chatting with some of the cast and crew behind the Nomad Theatre’s production of ‘Dick Whittington’. Not one to be missed!

Elsewhere in the show, we have:
– Christmas tracks chosen by the #SurreyChat tweet peeps
– Our usual UK Number 1 (3:30), Weekend Guide (4:30) and Crack the Connection (5:30)
– An update on Strictly and I’m a Celebrity (4:10)
– A look at local, national and international news stories
– News of some our upcoming festive Brooklands Radio shows

I can’t wait to welcome you to today’s show so get listening LIVE between 3 and 6pm at http://www.brooklandsradio.co.uk 🙂

SHOW RECAP – 18.11.2017

Finally, I have got around to recapping last week’s show on Brooklands Radio! It’s been another mad week as we get closer to December but this is what happened last week.

The UK’s Number One was ‘Havana’ from Camila Cabello once again. Great track though!

Alan Bosson popped in for a chat ahead of the AWS Gift Fayre and we ended up in fits of laughter over feel good songs – standard! JP and Alan Bosson – Mixcloud

Past game show It’s A Knockout got a mention on the show and after tweeting the presenters from the Channel 5 reboot, we got some photo memories sent to us by Nell McAndrew! Big thanks to her for the nostalgia 🙂

It’s Blackpool Week on Strictly so after saying goodbye to Ruth and Anton, it was time to look through the songs and dances for the night ahead. Some interesting combinations! Plus, the weekly prediction was Mollie and AJ to leave the show.

Plenty of great Surrey events in the Weekend Guide including local gigs and this week’s movie pick ‘Justice League’, which got 3 stars out of 5.

In the news items, we looked at Children in Need’s £50.1 million total, the first ever birth at Waterloo station and a possible tax on takeaway boxes.

This week’s ‘Crack the Connection’ was thought of LIVE after some forgetful so-and-so missing it from the show prep list…! Derek guessed that ‘Supreme’ by Robbie Williams, ‘The Best’ by Tina Turner and ‘Top of the World’ by The Carpenters were linked by words meaning very good or top of their game. By being ‘The Best’, he won a Brooklands Radio car sticker.

That’s all from this week. Keep your eyes peeled for another show recap next week! Thanks to the listeners for their company and you for reading. I’ll be back on November 25th at 3pm – see you then.

A busy Brooklands weekend!

Wondering why my show recap isn’t up yet?

Well today was a busy Sunday as I joined my fellow OB regulars, Alan and Barry, at the AWS Gift Fayre at ACS Cobham. Interview supremo Jill and new recruit Lesia also joined the party and it was a super day!

Best bits from yesterday’s show will appear soon and are definitely worth it.

SHOW RECAP – 11.11.2018

Thanks to everybody who joined me for my Remembrance Day show today. Another 3 hours of counting down, this week with a poignant twist.

Lots on the show as ever – here are some of the highlights:

At 3:30, I spoke to local man Richard Adams about his experiences in the digital industry, his upcoming exhibition at Haslemere Museum and how we should be preparing children for the future. You can hear the podcast here: Richard Adams Podcast (BR)

The Weekend Guide was jam packed with events last week and led with the great new ‘Paddington 2’ film for the kids getting a 4 and a half star rating.

JP get us ready for tonight’s pre-Blackpool Strictly! He thought that local lady Ruth Langsford could be in danger tonight but wants to see her through to next week.

This week’s Crack The Connection was all to do with drinks – water, moonshine and milk all featuring in the song titles.

JP gave an emotional response to today’s Remembrance Day memorials by sharing his favourite wartime poem and playing Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’.

With no Premier League fixtures, it was a look to local rugby and the weekend’s F1 in the sport reports.

A busy show but a great one! I’ll be back next week for another ‘Countdown to Saturday Night’ from 3pm.

There’s lots more too so get involved and get listening from 3pm – http://www.brooklandsradio.co.uk

SHOW RECAP – 28.10.2017

That’s the Hallo-weekend Special done again! One of my favourite shows of the year and I can’t believe it has come and gone already. Next step – November. But before that, here’s the rundown on what happened on today’s countdown!

The playlist was FULL of Halloween tracks for this show. Anything with monster, ghost, spooky, fear, scared, trick, treat, etc. in the title was sure for a play. The listeners’ favourite… Monster Mash!

In all the excitement, we dropped ‘One Way or Anything’ for this week but it will be back next Saturday.

Although we hoped for some George Michael in the charts, the number 1 was ‘Rockstar’ from Post Malone ft. 21 Savage again for the 4th week.

JP took some time to chat about a Bake Off themed podcast that he guested on recently and played a clip from the show. You can listen to the preview here and download the podcast series too! ‘In The Mix’ Tease

A busy Weekend Guide this week with lots of local events including ‘Night at The Haslemere Museum’ which runs on Saturday night. Definitely sounded like a brilliant idea! The big movie release was the new Thor film and we touched upon some of the horror contributions that are out for the spooky season.

JP shared the guidance from Surrey Police for a safe Halloween, which is definitely worth checking out here: Surrey Police – Halloween Advice and ‘No Trick or Treaters’ Poster

In sport, it was a loss for Woking FC but a win for Esher Rugby! A mixed bag for the local sports teams. We also looked ahead to the Mexican GP for the F1.

Crack The Connection was trickier than planned and required a very rare 4th song. The tunes this week were:
1. East 17 – ‘Steam’
2. Lighthouse Family – ‘High’
3. Little Mix – ‘Hair’
4. The Paper Kites – ‘Paint’
The connection was FINALLY guessed by Julie, who said it was types of roller… which was close enough to the link on the card (titles that can be followed by the word ‘roller’).

JP also shared dates of upcoming outside broadcasts and events including the AWS Gift Fayre at ACS Cobham (Sunday 19th November), Esher Church School Fair (Saturday 25th November) and the Weybridge Christmas Market (Saturday 2nd December).

So that’s it for October. Two more months of 2017 to go and nine more jam packed shows! Keep an eye on the blog for more information about upcoming programmes and new projects for JP and the station. Exciting times are ahead 🙂
